Macaron Cafe
French Macarons are my new obsession. They could never take the place in my heart that cupcakes hold, of course, but they are a wonderful two-bite treat that I LOVE.
They are also very hard to find in NYC. Actually, you can find them in lots of places, but its very hard to find good ones. So far, the Green Cafe on 1st and 22nd, right by my apartment has the best one’s in town. The first time I walked in the owner yelled, “You can go to any macaron shop in this city and you will come back to me because my macarons are the best outside of France!” To test this theory, I trekked up to 58th and Madison to try the Macaron Cafe, which was rumored on Yelp to be one of the best macaron shops in New York. They were delicious. I tried the vanilla bean, pistachio, raspberry and peach. The Pistachio was by far the best. However, my friend at the green cafe was right, these macarons did not compare, and his are in fact the best in NYC.
This leads me into another thought. My favorite thing about this city, or any city, is finding your “local” places. Green Cafe is my local cookie shop, he also makes awesome paninis (identify crisis, fo sho). I was super excited this summer when I found a shoe repair shop by my apartment that was dirt cheap. The second time I went there however, my good friend Alex the Russian that owns the shop painted my white saddle shoes because he couldn’t find white shoe polish “I got a little bit of white paint on the grey pair but its no problem, yes?” Um, yeah no problem for you because you don’t have to wear them. long story short, if you know a good shoe repair place in the east village please let me know, I’m still on the hunt!
Hope you all have a good weekend!
